How can I quickly memorize a piece?  X% ^' P2 r0 i$ C5 f# a, k  P

: S3 Z$ k8 L7 T2 kThere are many approaches to take, and it''s probably a good idea to use
1 A* S# m; j6 w& nas many of them as possible.
1 y( J2 x" x: f$ N( R7 S6 Z2 w6 i2 G: v. F  Q* Y/ ]( u+ O
First, try to learn what the large scale structure of the piece is. Is it

Second, look for phrasing and other types of musical structures.0 l7 r  L7 a) w

Try to memorize the piece starting at the back (This is a tip from David. T; d* `( b( n* }. |
Russell) - we always go from front to back, often bogging down, so usually,
8 U( [1 B# z0 k. v& k( o# Nthe farther into a piece we go, the less familiar & comfortable it is. If5 a9 L; C# l2 ^; w% F/ r$ ~$ P

This also brings up the issue of learning single measures (apart from; j" k8 ]8 [6 a7 G3 H; Z
whatever musical context they might have). Jose Tomas used this technique

. v8 w0 A* z: Y$ O. a; @; P) N$ M( x
; o/ |5 ?2 l.
2 f  h4 W: P& a! k! ^1 ]8 O# ~( ]" H* s) p3 I) ~! ?- O
`" X2 \; p: I

。。。0 e0 s8 b" n( O( i

" d4 M2 p3 i- P0 N1 A+ }) {4 w. i( T9 ?* L) n
。。3 Y6 [2 u" H! Q* |3 d) Z
+ I3 R+ I/ Q( p4 U- P
